From Buffalo to Tokyo, whether an employee works at our corporate headquarters, our manufacturing facility, or one of our global offices, we are committed to creating the best environment possible for employee success.
New Era has been making caps in the U.S. since 1920, and we own and operate a manufacturing facility located near our headquarters in Buffalo, New York, employing approximately 400 people. Our comprehensive safety program is dedicated to standard safety principles and sound management practices. One of the hallmarks of our program is the active participation and leadership of our employees in health and safety committees and in decision-making processes that positively impact their work environments. Our corporate safety policy makes clear that no job is so important, nor any order so urgent that we cannot take time to complete our work in a safe manner
Our global Social Compliance Program operationalizes our commitment to responsible sourcing through education, risk assessment, strong partnerships with our suppliers, industry collaboration, promoting best practices, and stakeholder engagement. New Era's Workplace Code of Conduct is based on internationally recognized labor and human rights standards, including international principles aimed at preventing trafficking and slavery, and all forms of forced labor. We select suppliers that share our commitment to ethical practices, labor standards, and environmental responsibility.
New Era has been an active member of the Fair Labor Association (FLA) as a “Participating Company” since 2003, and has held leadership positions on the Board of Directors and in FLA committees. Our Compliance Program, originally accredited by FLA in 2007, was re-accredited in 2010 and again in 2020. FLA Accreditation represents the highest level of commitment to the standards for workplace code of conduct implementation, monitoring and remediation.

New Era is not about conformity. It’s about personalization, true customization that offers literally billions of styles and sizes and looks. We don’t push our philosophy on you. We don’t require you to get inspired or seize the day. We don’t dictate. We encourage you to be you. We marvel at the maverick. And revel in the rebel.
As a Fair Labor Association (FLA) Participating Company, New Era adheres to the FLA ‘s Code of Conduct and upholds fair compensation standards for workers. We have aligned our fair compensation strategy with the FLA’s, ensuring factory wages meets both the workers’ basic needs, covering areas such as food, housing, healthcare, and transportation, etc. as well as providing discretionary income eared during the regular work week.
We also support the FLA’s compensation tools and dashboard to facilitate wage data gathering and analysis. In 2021, we deployed FLA fair compensation assessment tools and guidance to our suppliers; there were 27 suppliers which completed the FLA fair compensation tools including all our strategic suppliers. The wage assessment data have been shared with the FLA for further review and analysis. Additionally, we started a pilot in partnership with our suppliers to find ways to improve worker compensation. In doing so, we successfully helped one of our suppliers significantly improve net wage of workers. In the next 5 years, we will extend wage assessments via the FLA’s tools to other suppliers, measuring of the strengths and weaknesses of compensation systems, and report this progress to our stakeholders. Our goal is to promote fair compensation, pay equity, gender equality, and responsible sourcing practices across all our supply chain.
We are fully committed to working and collaborating with suppliers, civil society organizations, unions, workers and other stakeholders to achieve these goals as well as sharing our experience on fair compensation project with other suppliers to foster better wages for workers.
At New Era, our commitment to the environment starts with our corporate Environmental Policy, in which every employee takes responsibility for reducing impact to the environment.
Even though our products and manufacturing processes don’t have as much environmental impact as some industries, we’re constantly looking for ways to minimize our footprint. Over the years, our efforts have included engineering our cutting process to minimize waste, overhauling lighting systems to conserve electricity, and purchasing green cleaning products. We’ve implemented Energy Management Systems (EMS) to control electrical energy consumption and whenever possible, we try to buy from local suppliers to reduce emissions from transportation.
We’re also proud of the green innovations we’ve undertaken at our headquarters such as recycling heat from IT back into our building and partnering with Metro Waste to convert our recycled paper into hand towels and toilet paper for our office use. In 2013, we conducted a product life cycle analysis to measure our environmental footprint, and since then have been working with our supply chain partners globally to reduce the environmental impacts of our products, such as through reducing energy, water and waste in the manufacturing process.
Our people create a culture of innovation that champions creative and critical thinking and allow us to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations of our products and our company.
At New Era, we know that it’s our people who make the difference. It’s our people who enable us to design, develop, market and distribute the outstanding products that our customers desire. It’s our people who create a culture of innovation that champions creative and critical thinking. And it’s our people who allow us to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations of our products and our company.
Our mission is to promote self-expression with every product and we strive to create a workplace that’s as diverse as our product, where differences are not only respected, but welcomed. We make 6 billion ways to say “this is who I am”. From Buffalo to Tokyo, whether an employee works at our corporate headquarters, our manufacturing facility, or one of our global offices, we are committed to creating a workplace that’s rich in diversity, inclusive of all thinking styles, and rooted deeply in our core values of: individuality, collaboration, authenticity and pride.
